Wildcraft Retreats — Herbal Wellness in the Countryside
Herbal Wellness · Est. 2014 · Wye Valley

A retreat where the hedgerow
is the apothecary.

Wildcraft Retreats is a countryside sanctuary devoted to plant-led rest. Days are spent foraging, distilling, and walking the meadow — nights are spent in linen-sheeted cottages beneath an unpolluted sky.

The Retreat Programs

Three stays, each rooted in a different rhythm of the land.

Programs are kept small — never more than eight guests — so that every infusion, every walk, every silence can be attended to properly.

Three nights

The Forager's Weekend

Thursday – Sunday · Spring & Autumn

An introduction to wildcrafting. Mornings on the meadow learning to identify twenty edible and medicinal plants; afternoons in the still-room pressing tinctures; evenings over a long, foraged supper.

Seven nights

The Still-Room Week

Monday – Monday · Year-round

A week given to the apothecary arts. Guests distill their own hydrosol, blend a personal tea, and leave with a small case of remedies made entirely from plants gathered on the estate.

Fourteen nights

The Long Rest

By arrangement · Winter only

A fortnight of deliberate quiet. No scheduled instruction — only the garden, the library, the daily herbal infusion, and the slow re-acquaintance with one's own pulse. Reserved for those who have stayed with us before.

The Herbal Apothecary

Every remedy begins as a plant, picked by hand, on the morning of its use.

Our apothecary is not a shop. It is a working room — copper still, oak bench, shelves of labelled jars — where guests learn to transform what the garden offers into something that keeps.
We grow thirty-four medicinal species across two acres of south-facing border and wild meadow. Nothing is imported, nothing is sprayed, nothing is wasted. What is not distilled is composted; what is composted returns to the bed that grew it.
Cold-infused
Steeped in spring water for twelve hours at ambient temperature, preserving the delicate volatile oils that heat would drive off.
Hydrosol
The aromatic water recovered from steam distillation — gentler than an essential oil, suitable for daily use as a toner or compress.
Tincture
A concentrated extract held in grain spirit at a 1:5 ratio; the standard vehicle for preserving a plant's full pharmacological profile.
Electuary
Herbs mingled with raw honey to form a paste — the oldest form of herbal medicine, and the most agreeable to take.
Oxymel
A combination of honey and vinegar used to extract the bitter and mineral compounds that water alone cannot reach.
Fomentation
A cloth soaked in hot herbal infusion and applied to the skin — the preferred method for localised, surface-level complaints.
The Seasonal Calendar

Voices from the Retreat

What guests carry home, beyond the jars.

I arrived exhausted and left with a case of tinctures I had made myself, and the peculiar calm of someone who has spent a week paying attention to plants.
Dr. Helena Mawson
General Practitioner · Edinburgh
The still-room week taught me more about my own nervous system than a decade of therapy. There is something in the slowness of distillation that settles a person.
Iris Okafor
Writer · London
I have returned four years running. The garden changes, the kitchen changes, but the quality of the quiet is exactly the same each time. That is the craft.
Thomas Brennan
Retired Teacher · Cork
